I ordered the 16GB model of the Excite Friday and received it yesterday morning. After a couple hours of testing it, I did a factory re-set and it'll be going back. Here are my impressions:

*Design: Very nice; its thinness and lightness and general look is better than my first-gen iPad.
*Fit/Finish: Poor. The metal band that wraps the edges of the Excite is quite sharp, and feels as though it could be pulled away very easily.
*Performance: OK (but not great), when it's not lagging or outright freezing. Back and Home buttons were often non-responsive, and there were two outright freezes that required a hard re-start (the soft shutdown buttons didn't work, in these cases; I had to hold down the physical power button till it turned off)
*Display: A bit washed out and fuzzy, and the 'auto' brightness defaulted to a very dim screen.
*Sound: Nice and loud, but a bit harsh.
*Battery: After a couple hours, it was down to 70% (but that was pretty intensive... Read more

I did a lot of research and waited a lot of time for the Excite to finally come out. I rec'd it via Fed Ex next day after placing my order, as I was that excited! This is (or was) my first tablet and LOVED the look, feel and touch, until I really started to use it. First, I saw someone else post about how rough it feels when holding it. It reminds me of an Apple Laptop where they (in my opinion) have the SHARP edge where your wrists sit. But with the Excite, when holding it, you can feel where they PRESS it together. It bothered me enough to keep turning it over and looking at it many times. VERY BAD job on putting them together IMO (in my opinion). I used it for 2 days and just could not deal with the roughness of the edges. As far as speed etc., I had no issues myself, and it worked fine from that standpoint. The front facing camera was fine, BUT when i took pictures with the back camera (inside and out pics) the quality was VERY POOR to say the least. VERY VERY poor and grainy. I... Read more

For Toshiba to release this tablet for MORE money than the new iPad is simply stupid. There is absolutely no reason for this tablet to exist. It brings NOTHING new to the already overcrowded lest-gen Android tablet market. Galaxy Tab 10.1" is a more polished product at can be had for $130 less, and Transformer Prime is $30 less and with 16Gb more, not to mention better screen and much faster CPU. Wait 2-3 months, and full HD tablets should be here.
